Here’s an Historic Group N motor using the Russell Engineering +.060 pistons. These pistons were lightened by removing metal under the head of the piston, reducing the crown height to .160″ thickness. We did a lot of testing with the engine, going through over 60 litres of fuel. Running the engine in excess of 8500 revs on many a run. This piston showed no signs any fatigue or failure and will we will be more than happy to run these pistons in race engines. One of the advantages of these pistons i the ring seal you can achieve. This motor was running 12:1 compression and with one of my race cams, was cranking 270 on the compression gauge. With approximately 1% on the leak down test. Great for race engines, and absolutely awesome for road going motors. 🙂
